Our downloadable patient education handouts and workbooks were created to help children, teens, parents and siblings cope with injury and/or illness. These patient education handouts are appropriate for use in hospital, rehab, and primary care settings. All patient education handouts are also available in Spanish.
For Parents / Caregivers: These patient education handouts are designed to help parents help their children cope with a variety of traumatic stress issues, including hospitalization, serious illness, injury, and discharge / returning home, as well as to help themselves cope.
For Children / Teens: These patient education handouts contain stories and activities designed especially to help children and teens cope with injury and pain, dealing with traumatic stress reminders, looking and feeling different, and adjusting after returning home.
For Siblings: These patient education handouts are designed to help siblings cope with their brother/ sister hospitalization, illness, injury, and recovery as well as tips to help parents help their other children cope.
Workbooks for Coping with Hospitalization: These workbooks are designed to help parents / caregivers and children cope with a hospitalization. Included are stories and activities to help children become familiar with hospital staff and medical procedures, understand emotional responses to trauma, deal with traumatic stress reactions, and ways to help parents care for themselves while still caring for their child.
