Medical traumatic stress & trauma-informed pediatric health care

  • CopingSpace, from Case for Smiles, provides information to help parents understand and cope with their own responses to their child's life-changing illness or injury.
  • InvisiYouth helps teens and young adults around the world with various chronic illnesses and disabilities with lifestyle programs, empowerment tools and fun resources
  • The Dravet Syndrome Foundation connects caregivers, siblings, and patients through their Family Network.
  • SibSpace, from Case for Smiles, provides resources to support youth through their sibling’s diagnosis, treatment and beyond.
  • The evidence-based Standards for Psychosocial Care for Children with Cancer and Their Families, were created via an expert review process convened by The Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation. 
  • The Emotional Safety Initiative from the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) is a movement to prioritize emotional safety at the same level as physical safety in all pediatric medical experiences.
  • The Center for Injury Research and Prevention, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
    describes research and resources on injury-related traumatic stress.

  • National Child Traumatic Stress Network
    A network of academic and community-based centers providing education and services for children and families who have experienced a traumatic event.  CPTS is a partner in the NCTSN.
  • International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies
    A professional membership organization that promotes advancement and exchange of knowledge about severe stress and trauma including guidelines for effective treatment of PTSD.
  • National Center for PTSD
    Part of the US Department of Veterans' Affairs,  this organization also has resources for a broad range of traumatic events, including resources relevant for children and families.
  • National Institutes of Mental Health
    Information explaining what PTSD is, when it starts, how long it lasts, and how to get help.

    Information on an anonymous 24-hr a day hotline that provides support and assistance to victims of domestic violence.

    Resources and information on an anonymous National Sexual Assault Hotline, 800.656.HOPE, for survivors of sexual violence.
