Learn how we are celebrating 20 years of CPTS!

20th anniversary commemorative logo

20 years ago, in 2002, the Center for Pediatric Traumatic Stress (CPTS) was founded as a partner in the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN), to address health-related trauma in the lives of children and families. At the center of this work has been training providers to recognize and address traumatic stress in children and to provide trauma informed care. Therefore, what could be more fitting than to commemorate this anniversary with a webinar series to continue disseminating CPTS’s resources and to look forward to the future of the field.

This week begins our webinar series! Each presentation will be co-facilitated by members of CPTS’s multidisciplinary team as well as members of the family and nursing advisory committees. The webinars will be recorded and made available on HealthCareToolbox for anyone who cannot attend.

Presenters: Meghan Marsac, PhD; Annie Marcinko, MSN, RN, CPN; and Richard James, MSLIS

This presentation will help attendees define pediatric medical traumatic stress and trauma-informed care, as well as share concrete tools on how to provide trauma-informed care through the D-E-F framework. Wednesday September 21st; 2-3 pm ET
Presenters: Julia Price, PhD; Michele Scialla, MSN, RN, CCRC; and Darlene Barkman, MA

Recognizing that all healthcare and mental health professionals may be affected by the trauma and stressors affecting the children and families in their care, this webinar will discuss trauma-informed care through the lens of the provider experience and secondary traumatic stress. The webinar will provide specific tools to learn quick, practical coping strategies, as well as discuss organizational responses.

  • Coping with a Child’s Injury & Illness: Resources for Families (click on link to register)
    Wednesday, September 28th; 2-3pm ET
Presenters: Kimberly Canter, PhD; Katie Holcomb; and Rebecca Bodan, FNP PhD

This presentation will speak directly to the experiences and needs of patients and families affected by injury and illness. Attendees will learn about pediatric medical traumatic stress and the signs and symptoms to look out for in their loved ones. Coping and advocacy skills, as well as caregiver resources, will also be shared.

Each presentation will offer free continuing education credits to the following groups: dentists, dietitians, nurses (including APRNs and with the opportunity to receive trauma hours), MDs (CMEs), physician assistants, pharmacists, psychologists, and social workers. Attendees from other disciplines who wish to claim hours independently can request a certificate as well.
