As a doctor, nurse or other healthcare provider, you care for children and families from all sorts of cultural backgrounds. We know that a growing number of Spanish-speaking families in the U.S. are looking for information online about health and their children and the CDC reports that in 2012 nearly 1 million Latino children received Emergency Department or inpatient hospital care for injury.

Recognizing the enormous need for Spanish language resources, The Center for Pediatric Traumatic Stress (CPTS) and the Center for Injury Research and Prevention (CIRP) developed the newest Spanish language tool: AfterTheInjury website – at www.AfterTheInjury.org/es.  This Spanish-language website fills a gap for families after an injury. All too often, medical care is brief and parents may have questions later and not know where to turn.  With a little extra help, parents can prevent early traumatic stress reactions from becoming persistent symptoms.

In addition, CPTS has a wealth of useful patient education handouts and tipsheets for parents, children, and teens are available in English and Spanish at the HealthCareToolbox website – all can be downloaded for free. We've also developed Spanish-language questionnaire measures to help researchers and clinicians better assess children’s acute traumatic stress symptoms.
