When a child is diagnosed with cancer, it impacts the whole family. How can healthcare providers help the family of a child who is newly diagnosed with cancer?

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, it impacts the whole family. How can healthcare providers help the family of a child who is newly diagnosed with cancer? One option is the Surviving Cancer Competently Intervention Program –Newly Diagnosed (SCCIP-ND).

SCCIP ND Training

What is SCCIP-ND?

SCCIP-ND is a manualized three session trauma informed intervention for parents and caregivers of children diagnosed with cancer. It is an integrated cognitive behavioral and family systems intervention, designed to help children and parents cope with a cancer diagnosis. The aims of SCCIP-ND are to promote healthy family adjustment to pediatric cancer and treatment and to prevent cancer-related posttraumatic stress symptoms in family members.

Training Opportunity

Interested in becoming a trained SCCIP-ND interventionist? This program is designed for medical and mental health providers who work with caregivers of children diagnosed with cancer.

The Center for Pediatric Traumatic Stress is holding a two-day training for SCCIP-ND on April 28th and 29th 2016 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

Continuing Education Credits Available!

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer 1 credit per hour, with a maximum of 12 credits to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. SCCIP-ND is also approved by the National Association of Social Workers for 12 continuing education contact hours through the Nemours Children’s Health System.
