Almost everyone, especially children, experience some level of distress, anxiety and avoidance after an injury or illness diagnosis. Your pediatric patients and their parents may show signs and symptoms of traumatic stress reactions very early on during their hospital stay, but these reactions should lessen over time. For some patients though, these reactions may last months and months an get in the way of physical recovery, contribute to new medical problems or simply make it difficult to enjoy life.
