Maintaining a sense of normal home life can be nearly impossible during an extended hospital stay, especially for kids. Missing friends, family, pets and other aspects of life at home, coupled with unfamiliar sights, sounds and smells, makes coping in the hospital difficult. By finding ways to bring a touch of normal life to the hospital, a healthcare provider can help alleviate some of the inherent stress of a long hospital stay.  It might be as simple as discovering the child's favorite movies or music. Or it may require some creative thinking. Whether creative or not, bringing a small part of home to the hospital will certainly make life a little easier for kids with extended hospital stays.
